Cattle and Turbines on Luing

The Cadzow family have long been renowned for the Luing breed of cattle, which was first developed after 1947 on the island of Luing in the Inner Hebrides by brothers Shane, Denis and Ralph Cadzow.

For some 10 years their farm has been operating 2 AOC 55kw wind turbines to provide low cost electricity and, in 2012, it was decided to replace these with 2 new 225 kw RRB Energy V27 turbines.

Shane and Archie Cadzow decided on this machine commenting "it was a well known and enduring model that fitted in with planning regulations and more importantly export capacity. RRB was chosen as supplier and to date they have delivered a thorough service and a quality turbine. We were also fortunate to have high quality local contractors David Clarke and TSL able to performed all the civil work, which meant only the installation team was not locally sourced, in any case Whytes crane hire and Wind technics performed their roles seamlessly".

Following the decision to proceed with the installation it was accepted that an insurance package was needed to specifically cover the installation and Archie Cadzow first contacted Nsure Renewables in early 2012 to seek guidance and assistance. Discussions followed to elicit general and specific information and Nsure approached several insurers specialising in wind turbine projects.

Nsure have been actively providing insurance solutions in respect of Renewable Energy projects for over 15 years. Their expertise ensures the thorough analysis of client's needs and the recommendation of appropriate insurance cover for all types of green energy developments and enterprises.

After carefully analysing the various quotations received, Nsure Renewables recommended Royal & Sun Alliance's (RSA) policy as the insurance terms included cover for physical damage and breakdown to the plant and equipment and loss of revenue at a competitive price.

Shane Cadzow expressed his interest in proceeding with the RSA terms and, over the following weeks, Nsure Renewables provided answers to both Mr. Cadzow and his bank manager (who needed to be certain that Mr Cadzow had protected his business against the potential risks) to all their queries relating to the scope of insurance.

In September 2012, it was confirmed that the project was operational and the insurance cover commenced.

Quote from Shane Cadzow about Nsure & the service provided "a simple and straight forward approach showing their experience in this field and succinctness in their handling".
